Davie White’s first game as interim manager was a good one as they beat Morton 2-0 away from home at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Raith continued their push for promotion after they beat Alloa Athletic 3-1 on Saturday.
A win for Ayr could potentially lift them up to sixth spot if results go their way.
This will be the 44th meeting between the two sides, with Ayr coming out on top on 17 occasions whilst losing 10 of the matches against Raith.
The Honest Men are actually unbeaten against tonight’s opposition in the last four meetings.
That includes the reverse fixture from earlier this season, with the game ending as a 0-0 draw.
How will tonight’s game play out?
We take a look…
1. Will Ayr United score in the first half? No
The Honest Men don’t have the best goalscoring record in the first period when on the road this season.
They’ve managed to score in the first half in just 37% of their away games.
There’s no difference between when Raith concedes their goals, though. With five let in from seven, they are currently averaging 0.71 goals against per first 45 minutes at home.
2. Will Ayr United score in the second half? Yes
Ayr have actually managed to score more than triple the number of goals in the second half of goals than they have in the first when on the road.
With 10 goals scored from eight, they are averaging 1.25 goals scored each second period when playing away.
Raith have actually kept a clean sheet in the second 45 in 56% of their home games this campaign so it won’t be straight forward for Ayr.
3. How many goals will Ayr United score? 2
It was two goals for the Honest Men at the weekend, which isn’t an unusual occurrence.
In fact, Ayr have scored exactly two goals in 50% of their away games so far this season.
It’s likely that Ayr will score as Raith have kept just two clean sheets at Stark’s Park this campaign.
With 10 goals conceded from seven, they are currently averaging 1.43 goals against per home game.
4. Will Cammy Smith score in the second half? No
The attacking midfielder scored both of Ayr’s goals at the weekend and both of them came in the second period.
He has now scored five goals in the league this season, with four of them coming in the second period.
This will be Smith’s fourth appearance against Raith, scoring once in his previous three games against them.
5. How many shots on target will Ayr United have? 4+
The Honest Men tested Aidan McAdams on seven occasions on Saturday, scoring with two of those attempts.
That means they have now had 25 shots on goal in their last five games, averaging five shots on target per game.
Meanwhile, Raith have conceded 17 shots on their goal in the last five. That’s an average of 3.4 shots on target against per game.
6. Will Andy Murdoch score? No
The midfielder has managed just one goal in his 17 appearances in the league this season.
His only goal came in the 2-0 win over Alloa back in December.
This will be Murdoch’s seventh appearance against Raith, scoring just the once in his previous five games against them.
- How many saves will Ayr United goalkeepers make? 4+
- Will Michael Moffat score? No
- How many corners will Ayr United be awarded? 4+
- Will Luke McCowan score? No
- Will Tom Walsh score? No
